On the 30th of March. A Johor Bahru District Scrabble Competition was held in 4 schools. Our school, SMK convent competed in SMK tasek Utara. The judging was very unfair and i do hope youre able to tell people about it.
sharlene~player2under15
Serah says:
first round.
U-18 =3-0. cum. spread of 400+.
U-15. 3-0. cum. spread of 700+.
second round.
u-18 3-0. cum. spread of 500+.
U-15. 3-0. cum. spread of 600+. against TUN FATIMAH. (read tt part.. VERY important..)
we played king of the hill. so the top two schools with the highest marks went against each other. we went against erm. i forgot who. then u-15 were against perling 2.
u-18 was 2-1 to convent's favour.
u-15 was 1.5-1.5. [a tie]
but the overall winners were...
u-18 sri rahmat and molek.
u-15 TUN FATIMAH and molek.
yesh yesh. the school our u-15 literally trashed won.. naturally dissatisfied we asked for an explanation from the judges. sharlene demanded lar. LOL. but nvm tt. apparently they decided who the winner was by tallying the marks of the FINAL game only.
Firstly, we weren’t briefed about this new ruling and we WERE supposed to play 3 games tt day. Why play 3 games when u decide the winner through one game only? They hav not only damaged my mental and emotional status yet they hav managed to ruin my trust in humankind. Yes. Perhaps a tad bit of exaggeration but it’s the truth. I am but a 14 year old kid who wants to play scrabble.
the purpose of this competition is to find the best team to represent the state of Johore. Why are they doing this? To ruin johor€s chances of winning at the national levels? And here our government is wondering why malaysians haven™t been able to conquer the internationals. How are we supposed to do so when we are stunted at such an early stage already? They are killing the hopes of our country. Teenagers are the hopes for tomorrow. Continue doing this and there WON’T be tomorrow. How are we supposed to embark on anything knowing that in malaysia wrongs are not righted?
Furthermore, Malaysia apparently is unable to set certain standard rules about scrabble. Are we such noobs that we are unable to realise whether a 2 letter word (2lw) exists or not when the entire 2 lw list is provided??? IQ exists despite being an abbreviation. Then why don’t I claim that SOJE exists coz its in OXFORDS.. IQ is not even on the list SO apparently that list is not updated.. Then why don’t they go and UPDATE it before passing incomplete stuff arnd? Is it THAT hard to add QI, OC, ZE, AP, XE and the like somewhere on that paper? Itll hardly take a minute. At other schools like English College which was also hosting, a diff dictionary is used.
(sowpods to be exact. which happens to be the SCRABBLE DICTIONARY!!)
{why play scrabble when we're using OXFORD?)
sharlene says :
i dont get 2 bingos and trash my TUN FATIMAH opponent 470- 130 for nothing ok! And wtf now? she gets to go for the finals? hello hello? whats wrong with this picture?
The only teams that we may have been able to accept is PErling 2. they were good and we had a win, lose, and a tie. They were pissed too.
Might as well slack like hell in the 1st two rounds and trash the lousiest of the lousiest in the 3rd round and appear as the winner right? Its UNFAIR to just count the last game!! we were playing bests of the best and we had a TIE. so what does that mean? doesnt it mean that BOTH of our teams qualify for the finals? we were the BEST there!!!!!
oh wait. it actually doesnt mean anything. cuz we still LOST TO PPL WE TRASHED.
i'm THROUGH being depressed and i do hope some ppl in charge reads this post cuz its very important if they actualy dream of making ppl interested in scrabble playing. Good players are getting super discouraged when things like this happened.
good day
is REELING a word? like.. fishing reel. reeling. ah whatever. i got challenged and i lost a turn. eff!
